DVC Essay

The title of my essay was, "How does Alexander McQueen use performace and technology to enhance his catwalk shows and how has this created controversy?" The essay explored many of McQueens past shows, whilst comparing him to designers like Viktor and Rolf and Hussein Chalayan. It went on to explore what will become of the brand now it is run by Sarah Burton. Here is my front cover:

Photoshoot

One of the elements of our portfolio was to carry out a photoshoot from a photobrief we got given.  Our brand was A-Morir, an extravagent sunglasses brand who was bringing their collection to Selfridges. Our task was to promote this:

We had to create our own photography company and this is an example of our business card.

This is our manifesto.

Inspiration moodboard for our photoshoot.

Our double page spread that would be featured in magazines to promote this new brand at Selfridges.

This banner will feature on the Selfridges website as a form of promotion.

Portfolio

Here are a couple more extracts from my portfolio:
Heres the title page of my portfolio. I wanted to create a look that was fun and bright. I played with overlays of images onto colour and used this blue, white and pink colour scheme throughout.

We had to recreate a double page spread from an original magazine. I chose Wonderland as I love the layout, and this is my final outcome.

A - Z

For our portfolio we had to make our own typography and create an alphabet; heres mine:
This was made using a torch and a slow shutter speed on the camera. This allowed me time to draw the letter in the air with the tourch whislt the camera captured the image. I edited each image by turning up the contrast so that the background was blacked out and all you could see was the letters.

Photoshop

One seminar this semester we had to experiment with photoshop to try make images/ text blur. We tried to recreate a Miu Miu advert and this was the end result:

Retail Report

For our latest uni project we have had to write a retail report on a UK brand expanding into the US market and how this would be possible. I chose the brand Whistles, and here are some sections of the report:

Moodboards for my consumer segmentation. The first shows a more fashion forward consumer at Whistles, whilst the second is there more average consumer.

These are 2 examples of double page spread that would be used to advertise Whistles move to the US and their collaboration with ChloƩ.

This is a moodboard for ideas for the flagship store in SoHo, New York.

This is the front page of the lookbook I created for this seasons campaign.

Whistles

For my latest uni project I am writing a report on womens fashion brand Whistles moving to America. Before I started this I always just wrote off the brand and didn't think anything of it, but from the research I've realised how gorgeous some of the clothes are. Here are some favourites from recent collections:

Shock Tactics

Whilst researching for my DVC essay on Alexander McQueen and how he encorporates perfomance into fashion shows, I have been comparing him to others who have done similar things. Here are some favourites:

Hussein Chalayan - Fall 2000
The dress turns from a table to skirt.

Viktor and Rolf - Fall 2008 - 'No'
This show wall all about Viktor and Rolf saying 'No' to the constant changing of the fashion industry.

Viktor and Rolf - Fall 2007 - 'The Fashion Show'
This was supposed to represent how everyone walks around in their own little imaginary fashion show, yet it caused lots of controversy with the viewers who claimed it wasn't fair to make the models walk the runway attached to the scaffolding.

REBEL Leader

Tim Blanks has written a book to accompany the new Alexander McQueen exhibition 'Savage Beauty' opening at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Wednesday. For style.com Blanks has produced a tribute with some of McQueen's best work. If you want to see click here.

Blanks quotes "McQueen had an instinctive urge to disturb his audience as well as an ability to find beauty in places others overlooked."

Here are some favourite images from the tribute:

Fall 1995 - Highland Rape

The Bumster Trouser

Collaboration with Comme des Garcons and Nick Kinght in Visionaire in 1997

Fall 1998
