emslie creative

So this is another blog post which I have been meaning to do for a while now. For the month of June I spent my time on the Metropolitan line travelling between Watford and Brick Lane for work experience with the lovely Amber Wood and her PR company Emslie Creative.
Emslie is quite a small company which deals with the British PR for both of Nicole Richie's brands, Winter Kate and House of Harlow 1960, as well as other brands including Beta Fashion, a brand with the best printed clothes and scarves, and Kat&Bee a gorgeous jewellery brand selling the most unique and exquisite handmade rings. Emslie also does the PR for the stunning cashmere brand Madeleine Thompson, which not only kept us warm when it was freezing in the office, but is the brand I go to deal with most. I was in in charge of the Madeleine Thompson social media from Twitter and Pinterest to the Blog. It was fun and exciting seeing how tweeting the right information or the right people could dramatically increase the amount of followers, and that was all down to me. I also found it strange that in this day an age I am now considering a career in social media once I've graduated from uni, this would have never have been possible a few years back.

My general day to day tasks included research into new brands and ideas, writing blog posts both for Madeleine Thompson and on the Emslie blog, tweeting and creating Press Alerts for upcoming trends and events. This was my favourite task and here are a few examples of my favourite press alerts that I created.

Before I did this work experience I had always had an interest in PR but was never entirely sure what PR agency's actually did. It was therefore really interesting to see how the PRs communicate with the various magazines and how much brands rely on their agency to get their products into the magazines or online. It was always an exciting moment when you saw  your samples in the media. And of course I always got a little too excited when the client happened to be someone famous!

We often had various people popping into the office for meetings with Amber and to take a look at all the latest samples. This included mostly stylists and bloggers; when Ella Gregory from Coco Tea's Party blog popped in - who now makes a living off her blog - I felt very inspired to work on and improve my blog. We even had a visit from the lovely singer Jessie Ware.

I think my most favourite moments of the work experience was when we got to go for meetings with the fashion departments of the high street magazines. After being an avid reader of many of the magazines and with fashion journalism being a big interest of mine, it was fascinating to see where all these magazines were created. Visits included to Red magazine, Look and Easy Living Online.

If you want to see some of my blog posts take a look at the Madeleine Thompson blog or AmberNectar which is my boss Amber's blog. My favourite post of course had to be the one about the Spice Girls!

Take a look and enjoy xx
