grunge goddesses

Just as Grunge makes a dramatic comeback this season, it seems fitting that style.com pay homage to some of the grunge goddesses of the 1990's where it all began.
The 90's was a time of rebellion, where, thanks to the perceptions surrounding 'Grunge', women were given to permission to do/wear what they wanted and wear it with an attitude.

Here are some of style.com's most influential women of the decade:

Courtney Love
It wouldn't be the 90s and it definitely wouldn't be grunge without Courtney Love.

Winona Rhyder
Star of 90s favourite teen films 'Beetlejuice' and 'Heathers' and the fact that she dated Johnny Depp meant that everybody wanted to be Winona.

Kim Gordon
She made it okay for grunge girls to be 'girly' whilst still retaining their credibility. She was often seen on stage in sparkes and minis yet still wearing that trademark black eyeliner.

Emma Balfour
She had the perfect mix of androgyny and sex kitten whilst epitomising the ninties love for natural, bare-faced beauty.

Kathleen Hanna
The outspoken feminist. 'It's just as 'punk' for women to play musical instuments badly as it is for men.'

Jenny Shimizu
The epitomy of 90s andrgoyny and the face of unisex scent CK One. Also the former lover of Angelina Jolie!

I love the grunge look and I am so happy it has made a comeback this season. These women set the trend and were influential for many reasons. I almost wish I had been 10 years older so I would have experienced the 90s as a teenager, and not the 5 year old who was obssesed with anything Spice Girls related!

Enjoy xx
