mary katrantzou

this collection oozed femininity through the clever use of prints in spectacular colours. the prints all hinted at nature, from florals to feathers to scales, yet all distorted and presented in an abstract way. again, by the looks of things, pastel colours are going to be big next season with supposedly yellow being the favourite. (help us now as i do not wear yellow!) yet despite this nod to these hues of ice cream colours, mary still managed to make them seem so vibrant; perfect for the summer.
it was not only the clever use of colours and pattern that impressed me, but also the mix of materials and the shape of the clothing. the range of material ranged from chiffon to metal, sometimes both on one outfit. one dress was made up entirely of small 3d flowers.
volume was a massive part of this show. and with the architectural construction of some of the dress, this was most certainly achieved. yet on the other hand, the use of chiffon and the movement of the models on the runway gave a whole to dimension to this idea of volume.

mary was trying to make a point of man vs. nature; and this she has certainly done.
and if beauty tips are anything to go on from this show, we will also be wearing dishevelled hair and bright blue lipstick next season.
enjoy xx
